With precious little time for sleep twenty two of our postgraduate design students have engaged in diverse, collaborative and personal projects that predict, challenge and shape the future of their chosen disciplines.

A system for college enrolment that captures some of the complexities of personal identity in a globalised world. The system replaces the current limited categories E.G. African, British, Asian, with a visualization of a personal updateable dynamic logo that tells a specific story, provides a wayfinding system and a course and college identity.
The proliferation of towns and cities has deprived many plant and animal species of their natural habitat. This project is an attempt to revive some of these spaces by encouraging the coexistence of humans and nature within the man made environment, while questioning anthropocentric attitudes and established precepts of human socio-spatial orderings.

This project explores the overlap between two approaches: Inclusive design and the idea of fundamental, quantitative ‘needs’; and emotional design, which is more personalised and qualitative. The objective is to create a meaningful spectacle which everyone can share and to provide the user with new everyday experiences, incorporating poetry, simplicity and narrative.
This teapot depicts simplicity and intuition in its aesthetic lines, with a patent lightness of touch. The visual language has been reduced to let the object breathe and tell a story based on its interaction with the user.

An exploration of patterns of use and storage and how their boundaries might define furniture is at the heart of this furniture. Technology impacts increasingly on our use of personal spaces, bringing its own detritus to our increasing confined urban spaces. The result; furniture with a personalised and idiosyncratic idiom.

A Table of Two Cities connects friends and family in London and New York through a shared interactive café experience. Networked multi-touch tables enable café-goers in these remote locations to share a meal and communicate through the table surface. The café table conveys the presence of the other café-goer and becomes a liminal surface connecting close friends in distant cities.

Souls. Type Design and Irish Identity.
The subject of Irelands typographic ‘identity’ provides the inspiration for this inquiry. The combination of a complex historical context, the unusual position of the Irish Type as a ‘National Type’ and the subsequent questions raised by its existence led me to articulate a typographic response to the subject. The result of this process is Nib, a small, but growing, family of serif and sans serif text faces.
